Jellalpore

Jellalpore Tea Estate is situated on the foot hills of the North Cachar Hills, connected on the northern side with the state of Meghalaya, and on the south-west with the International Border of Bangladesh. The River Baleshwar flows through the Estate bifurcating it into two halves creating picturesque views of the garden.

The Tea at this virgin sylvan land was planted in April, 1863 by Macneill & Barry Co. Ltd.

The property was acquired in 1969 by Jay Shree Tea & Industries Limited from Macneill & Barry Co. Ltd. After acquisition, the Jayshree Tea management took number of measures in terms of investment and better management practices to increase the area under cultivation, quality of the produce and overall output of the garden.

  • Programme of Rejuvenation, Replanting, Replacement.
  • Setting up of large Nurseries, introduction of most modern & effective cultivation practices.
  • First Commercial Garden to rise composite plant nursery and plantation in North East India.
  • Modernizing the Factory with latest Machines and technology to enable in crease in output while maintaining high standard of quality.

As a result of these efforts, the total area under cultivation was increased from 318.32 Hectare to 370.44 Hectare, similarly the total crop was increased from 329077 Kgs to 869000 Kgs. Remarkable improvement in quality was also achieved.

The company is ISO 9002 certified and also recipient of trophy for best quality tea from Tea Board.

The Estate Employs 541 Permanent workers. ln the harvesting season additional casual workers are employed. No children are employed on the garden. The estate provides free housing fuel and subsidized cereals to its workers as also protective clothing in the monsoon and winter months. As part of its welfare program for staff, company has also set up one estate hospital and a school along with a handcraft centre for workers and dependants. Executives along with their workers actively participate in religious and cultural functions.

The garden is well connected by road and nearest railway and airport are less than 100 kms away.
